Linssicurry || Dal

 

All kinds of lentil dishes are known to Indians for its simple yet nutritious and deep comforting taste. Although there are many different types of Indian food, I have found that lentil soup(dal) is something which is found in North as well as South of India(including east and west) ,cooked in different ways as per their culture.

Dal recipes are numerous yet every family has their own. The below is a simple recipe that you can make in less than 15 minutes and is available
 in both Finnish and English. Also, check out on tips at the end of the blog.

Ingredients:         

🍴 2 servings:                                          🍴 2 annosta:
1 tsp Mustard seeds                                         1 tsp Sinapinsiemenet
1 tsp Jeera seeds                                          1 tsp Jeeran siemenet
2 tsp Sambar powder                                          2 tsp Sambarjauhe
1 cup lentils                                          2.5dl linssi
1 red onion                                          1 punaista sipuli
2-3 cloves of garlic                                          2-3 valkosipulinkynttä
1 big tomato                                          1 iso tomaatti
2-3 red chillis                                          2-3 punaista chilliä
curry leaves                                          currylehtiä
coriander leaves                                          korianteri
spinach                                          pinaatti
2tbsp cream                                          2tbsp kerma
oil                                          öljy
salt                                          suola

Procedure: 

Pressure cook lentils(with salt) upto 2 whistles. In a frying pan, add some oil, mustard seeds, jeera, 2 red chillies(crushed) and curry leaves. When it starts splattering, add the chopped garlic and red onions. Fry until the onion is translucent. Add salt and sambar powder and saute it for half a minute. Add chopped tomatoes, and let it cook for 2 minutes. Add cooked lentils, spinach and bring it to a boil. Add cream, and garnish it coriander. Serve it hot with rice or chapathi/roti.

Painekypsennetyt linssit (suolalla) jopa 2 pilliin. Lisää paistinpannuun öljyä, sinapinsiemeniä, jeeraa, 2 punaista chiliä (murskattua) ja currylehteä. Kun se alkaa roiskua, lisää hienonnettu valkosipuli ja punasipuli. Paista, kunnes sipuli on läpikuultava. Lisää suolaa ja sambarjauhetta ja paista sitä puoli minuuttia. Lisää hienonnettuja tomaatteja ja anna sen kypsyä 2 minuuttia. Lisää keitetyt linssit,pinaatti ja kiehauta. Lisää kerma ja koristele se korianterilla. Tarjoile sitä kuumana riisin tai chapathin / rotin kanssa. 

Tips You can boil the lentils until it is soft if you don't have a pressure cooker. Green or red chillies can be used.
